As I pursued higher education beyond a Bachelor's Degree, my first Master's course started off with a Mindfulness class and I was livid! They were wasting my time, or so I felt. I wanted to get busy and dig deep into the content and not attend a fufu type class that I thought would force me to hum or do yoga.

I was so very wrong! This class got me seeing the world around me in such a different way, and it all began with me. I got to go deeper into self and how I saw myself, how aware I was about me and others around me, and how this new awareness could guide and enhance the power of my leadership.

Every college course should begin with mindfulness because it shifts the potential for intentional and deeper learning outcomes. Every leader should be expected to mindfully lead a body of people and not only care about the bottomline. Early interventions in schools should teach kids and teens how to navigate life and its challenges enough to show up for themselves and to help shape their academic and career potentials.

We can become more mindful people. It will have impact as we see a more caring minded society that ultimately creates safer communities and cities across the world.
