The World Health Organization defines wellness as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The Arizona State University further defines wellness as “an active, lifelong process of becoming aware of choices and making decisions toward a more balanced and fulfilling life. Wellness involves choices about our lives and our priorities that determine our lifestyles.”

Armed with this knowledge, The Utopia Collaborative believes that Community wellness can be achieved through strategic planning and actions of people who work together for the good of everyone. In order to achieve this wellness, a spectrum of resources must be coordinated that fosters healthy decision making and creates a playing field for people and communities to be well.

We further believe that to ensure these resources are integrated into a community and are focused on wellness, a cross-sector of individuals, businesses, faith-based institutions, community based organizations, and health institutions, and government must work together to institute effective support services and advocate for policies that lend to community wellness. Therefore, we aim to eliminate the silos and blocks to effective communication that exists as it relates to resources and opportunities within cities. We further the prospects for community wellness by making these intentional investments, either through direct services, collaborative approaches or through advocacy.

In order to do this, as an organization, we choose to collaborate with other organizations that align with our vision and mission as we believe that everyone comes with unique strengths and there is no need to re-invent the wheel, but rather, work together to help communities grow. We seek out organizations that create impact and operate with the highest integrity.
